9:45-10:45—Education Session 2: Avoid Relationship Pitfalls with Managers, Boards, and Owners
As managers, your entire job is centered around building and maintaining relationships with those around you. This session will focus on avoiding relationship pitfalls with two of the most important groups of people that you engage with on a daily basis- your board members and the owners. The goal of this session is to provide Community Managers with the signs of potential pitfalls in these relationships and how to avoid them. Many times, the Community Manager can be the mediator, policeman, leader and organizer for their associations. In this session, we hope to provide you with some effective tools to help you manage all those roles and foster good relationships with your Board and owners.
Topics will include:
• Board harmony- how to prevent infighting, recognize hidden agendas, promote inclusiveness, insure preparedness and encourage listening
• Responding to escalating tensions amongst owners and the Board- recognizing potential threats, how to handle an active shooter situation or other safety threats
• Avoiding Manager burnout- how to recognize it, how it affects your relationships with the Board and owners, how to manage your time, and enlisting help
Speakers: 1. Janice Avery, FirstService Residential 2. Kerry Bartell, KSN
