On Thursday, November 19, 2018, Judge E. Kenneth Wright (presiding Judge of the First Municipal District of the Circuit Court of Cook County), issued General Order 2018-03. The order sets the dates and terms for the 2018-2019 moratorium on the enforcement of orders for possession in the forcible entry and detainer eviction cases in Cook County.

As a result of this order, all residential eviction orders to be enforced by the Sheriff of Cook County starting on Monday, December 17, 2018 will be placed on hold for the holidays. The holiday moratorium will be lifted just over two weeks later, on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
Outside of this timeframe, the order furthermore requires that the Sherriff not execute eviction orders when the local outside temperature is at or below 15° F or when extreme weather conditions pose a health and welfare threat to those being evicted, regardless of temperature.
Keep in mind, forcible entry and detainer eviction cases will still be heard in court, however, enforcement of eviction orders by the Sheriff may be delayed in the event of extreme winter weather.
Note: This order does not impact commercial evictions.
