The Illinois Court-Based Rental Assistance Program (CBRAP) is a state initiative designed to provide financial assistance to tenants and landlords involved in eviction proceedings due to nonpayment of rent. Administered by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), the program aims to prevent evictions and promote housing stability across the state.
As noted on the Illinois Court-Based Rental Assistance Program website (https://www.illinoishousinghelp.org/cbrap): “The Illinois Court-Based Rental Assistance Program will stop accepting new applications beginning at 6:59 p.m. (CDT) on Friday, June 6. Applications submitted before that deadline will be reviewed. A complete application is not a guarantee of funding.”
Key Features of the Illinois Court-Based Rental Assistance Program (CBRAP)
- The program is currently limited to cases already in court.
- Covers unpaid rent, plus up to 2 months of future rent, and court costs up to $500, but the total award will be capped at $15,000.
- To receive the grant, landlords must agree to dismiss any ongoing eviction proceedings against the tenant.
- The eviction must be dismissed with prejudice, meaning any remaining delinquent amount not covered by the rental assistance must be written off.
- All late fees, other penalties, and attorney’s fees must be written off.
