Matthew Moodhe has more than 20 years of experience representing condominium, homeowner (HOA), and townhome community associations in all areas of community association law including: association governance and board procedure, declaration interpretation and amendments, rules enforcement, assessment collection, real estate tax reduction, vendor contract review and dispute litigation, association and board insurance coverage and defense, governmental relations and crime prevention programs.

Matt works closely with board members and property managers and is very accessible to his clients. He believes in practicing preventive law and proactively addressing legal issues before they become large, costly disputes. 

Matt has extensive trial court experience and has also argued cases before the Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Supreme Court. Prior to joining Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit, he served as a criminal prosecutor in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

Matt has been a member of the firm’s Executive Committee since 2007 and served as the firm’s Managing Principal (2010-2013). In these roles, he has been integrally involved with the firm’s strategic development and advancement. 

Matt is the author of the weekly Daily Herald “Condo Talk” column that provides general guidance on condominium and common interest community association legal issues.

Matt joined Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit in 1994 and has been a practicing attorney since 1991.
